Arlington Town Meeting

27 April 2004

Thoughts

  • Very slow going at first, but things did generally pick up in the second half of the session.
  • In the one counted vote we had, only 158 people voted (out of 244 current TMMs -- 8 slots are open for various reasons). Sigh.
  • No more than five minutes after the Moderator explains that reports should be in written form, should generally not be read aloud, and presentations of which should not be more than five minutes, the Rental Reinspection Committee reads a very long report that should have been printed, handed to us, and a 30 second comment made about the brochure being drafted and the building inspector's upcoming seminar.
  • Were people just determined to fail to read Mr. Abbott's subsitute motion on Article 12? I counted at least three completely incorrect claims made about it, all of which would have been seen to have been obviously false after about 15 seconds of looking at his substitute motion.
  • It would be nice to have mikes that could pick up sound from more than 4 inches away. People really should follow Mr. Abbott's example and just take the mike out of the holder and hold it up to one's mouth.
